COMPETITION: Hershey’s Brand Jamming for GreenAmerica.org

Check out this new competition

You know about Hershey’s shameful record. Ten years after avoiding regulation of abusive child labor in the cocoa industry by promising to adopt “voluntary” standards, Hershey has yet to adopt any meaningful way of policing its supply chain. (Find out more in corporate responsibility report for Hershey, or check out our chocolate scorecard, on which Hershey scores the lowest grade.)

Thousands of Green Americans have called, e-mailed, and sent letters (and Valentines!) to Hershey demanding better; now it’s time to push our action to the next level.

THE CONTEST
Along with our allies at Global Exchange, Oasis USA, and the International Labor Rights Forum (ILRF), we’re sponsoring a “brand-jamming” contest, for you to create ads for the REAL Hershey company.

Create a clever mock tagline, mock print ad, or mock commercial video for Hershey’s that doesn’t sugar-coat (no pun intended) the truth. E-mail your submissions to fairtrade@greenamerica.org by March 24. Five entries in each category will be selected as finalists, and we’ll run a public vote the first week of April.

THE PRIZES
One grand-prize winner from each category will receive a Global Exchange Fair Trade “chocolate lovers” gift basket. First runners-up in each category will receive a Green America T-shirt, and four free tickets to a 2011 Green Festival in a city of your choice. All submissions will receive a 10-percent coupon for the Global Exchange online Fair Trade store.

Winners of the contest will be announced on April 9, 2011 at the San Francisco Green Festival, with finalists’ brand-jam submissions displayed throughout the Green Festival’s Fair Trade Pavilion.

We’re really looking forward to seeing the creativity of all the Fair Trade advocates out there. Your submissions will help us to spread the word about Fair Trade to more chocolate-lovers, and draw attention to companies like Hershey that have problems with their supply chain. Please forward this e-mail and like the campaign post on Facebook to share this contest with all your creative friends.
